MACHACA
Though relatively unknown, Machaca are one of the most exciting freshwater game fish in Central America. They live in freshwater streams near sea level and tropical lakes.
Though they are a relative of the Piranha, they feed mostly on seeds and berries, not that they will ignore bugs or other protein sources that they come across.
They aggressively defend their territory which means that poppers and surface baits will elicit violent strikes followed by spectacular jumps.
Lodges where you can find them: Rio Indio Lodge.
