Fishing Program

The Skeena system holds the world record for both Steelhead on the fly and on conventional tackle. As well as having the world’s largest run of wild Steelhead the Skeena also holds two world records for Chinook (King Salmon).

Fishing season begins in April and goes through to early November. The spring season brings fresh runs of Steelhead, trout and early Chinook salmon into the rivers. This is a great time for fly fishermen to experience fishing on a variety of rivers. Fly fishing throughout the summer season is an action packed time.

The chance of catching Steelhead and all five species of salmon during your trip is an amazing experience and brings many anglers back year after year. By early September the tributaries are filling up with Coho (Silver salmon) and Steelhead providing excellent fishing as well as incredible wilderness scenery.

Kalum River Lodge’s guides are very experienced fly fishermen with an extensive knowledge of the fly fishing waters. The guides will work with you as much or as little as you require.

During the summer and into the fall, the lower Skeena River hosts vast numbers of migrating Steelhead and salmon all heading towards up-river tributaries. These fish are only a day or so out of the ocean so they are strong, aggressive and very feisty.

Fishing the lower Skeena is exciting and action packed. Be prepared to hear your reel screaming as your fish heads off down river! All the fish bound for renowned rivers such as the Bulkley, Babine, Kispiox, Sustat, Kalum, Morice and Copper (Zymoetz) run through the lower Skeena.

Each morning after breakfast your guide will be ready to take you fishing all day. You will depart with your guide to different river systems and areas, dependent upon the time of year, species available and preferred fishing methods.

Access to the fishing areas is with a combination of four-wheel drive vehicles, drift boats, rafts or jet boats. With the perfect location of the lodge you can be fishing within 5 to 45 minutes after setting out. Fishing is from the bank, wading or drifting.
