Destination Overview
Jardines de la Reina is a vast marine park larger in size than the Florida Keys. It is located about 60 miles off Cuba’s south central coast and is comprised of hundreds, if not thousands of mangrove islands and thousands of acres of fishable flats. It’s ideal for fly fishers who wish to experience fishing from dawn till dusk. More fishing hours are offered here than anywhere. This is because you will be on a live-aboard luxury yacht, The Avalon 4. Here you will cast for everything - Tarpon of all sizes, Permit, bones, Jacks, Barracuda - you name it.
Think about a place where you can fish more than 100 miles of flats without seeing other fishing parties. The Cuban Fishing Center has exclusive rights to these waters and the skiffs are limited to 16 a day! Fishers have been known to catch seven species in one day, a place where big bonefish run toward your fly. This is a place where you have a legitimate chance for a Grand Slam every day of the year, and a place where you can wade miles of white-sand flats in your bare feet.
Fly fishing in Cuba is far different from other destinations in the Caribbean. Only in recent years has this flats fishery been developed, and you are fishing waters that have not seen sport fishing for nearly fifty years. Cuba has given these pristine areas protection as Cuban National Marine Parks, where no commercial fishing is allowed other than for lobster.
This is truly an exciting destination for Kiene's Fly Fishing Travel to represent! Four of our staff, along with many guests have already experienced Jardines de la Reina and we can not wait to go back!
Let Kiene's Fly Fishing Travel send you to Cuba! If you prefer going with an experienced travel pro, please join us on one of our hosted trips in 2020! Give us a call, let’s go to Cuba now!

Fishing Program
Unlike many lodges, fishing hours are totally at the discretion of the clients. Our fishing day normally begins with breakfast at 7:00 am, and guides are ready to go fishing from 7: 45 am on. Many anglers elect to return to the yacht for a nice lunch especially during the summer season. Some of the flats are within fifteen minutes of the boat, and it is always nice to take a lunch break in the shade and relax a bit before fishing a long afternoon.
On other days when you will want to explore more distant flats that see little fishing pressure, you need to request box lunches for yourself and your guide the evening before. You can run as far as you like with guides to the most distant flats in the island system, as there is no limitation on gas used each day. Clients can fish late into the evening if they like. In the Jardines, it is common to have stronger wind in the mornings but then later in the afternoon it will often be calm making for superb late afternoon and evening fishing, especially for bonefish.
In Jardines de la Reina, the season is year round. A normal week includes five full days of fishing and one to two half days depending on your schedule and mode of transportation to Jucaro, port for the Jardines de la Reina archipelago.
