EL PESCADOR LODGE

Destination Overview
Belize is one of the most visited saltwater destinations in the world. The fact that it is an English speaking country makes it an easy destination for those not familiar with international travel. The country was first settled by "Baymen" who established a settlement that was a safe base for piracy, strategically located near Spanish shipping lanes. It was eventually taken over by the British, hence the English language
Its remoteness belies the fact that El Pescador is 40 acres of luxury and is an all encompassing resort that offers, scuba diving, saltwater fishing, and activities for non fishermen such as just laying around on a coconut bordered beach, and swimming in its crystal clear waters.
Close by the lodge is one of the most diverse collections of saltwater game fish that range from Bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, snapper, jacks, barracuda and numerous other species. Family owned for the past 40 years, the lodge has a family feel to it and a dedication to the comfort of its guests. We at Kiene's Fly Shop consider the El Pescador Lodge as one of the finest fishing destinations in the Caribbean.
Today Belize is a sovereign nation, and prizes its coastline as one of its greatest natural resources, and saltwater sports such as fly fishing and diving. In 2009, recognizing the importance of Belize as a destination fishery the Belizian government passed one of the most stringent set of catch and release regulations in the world to ensure that its populations of Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit will continue to flourish.

Fishing Program For Both Lodges
The ultimate dream of saltwater fly anglers is the “Grand Slam” of Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit and El Pescador Lodge is one of the few destinations where you can do it. The flats near the lodge offer the lodge’s fly fishing guests a chance to catch Tarpon and Permit and Bonefish 12 months a year. Also available are Snook in the nearby lagoons,
Bonefish
The lodge is located right near the Bonefish flats and the fishing is done from either the bow of the boat or by wading. They average from 2 to 5 lbs, and there are a lot of them. Jack crevalle, barracuda, cobia are also available.
Tarpon
Tarpon can be caught year round in various sizes with some going over 100 lbs. In the late summer migratory Tarpon literally double the local population with fishermen tending to have the most success during the phase of the new moon, though they are regularly caught during all days of the month.
Permit
Ranging from 5 to 30 lbs, Permit are found in large schools. It is common to catch 8 and 10 pounders.
For those wanting to go it on their own, the lodge offers free kiayaks and canoes. Lodge staff can provide instruction and direction and then send you on your own personal adventure. Opportunities are available for those who would like to do some deep water fishing for Tuna and Wahoo outside of the reef. Evening workshops conducted by guides are available where they will instruct you on fly casting and other techniques for fishing for the various species in the nearby waters.
Guides have been carefully selected from local “fish heads” who not only have intimate knowledge of the local species and waters but are passionate about teaching the skills that will make your fishing experience a success. Many are second generation El Pescadore guides and have knowledge passed down from fathers and some cases grandfathers.
Best Fly Fishing Seasons
Fish reside in the area around the lodge 12 months of the year, plus the addition of a major Tarpon migration late in the summer. Any day of the year, you can be assured that the fishery is diverse and abundant. The only variability in the fishing can be caused by the occasional cold front that are unpredictable, and are short lived.
