Destination Overview

One of our goals at Kiene’s Fly Fishing Travel is to discover exotic fishing opportunities that have been overlooked by other travel websites. Our research has been rewarded by our discovery of the Chundukwa River Lodge located along the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. There you will fish for Tiger Fish which is the most prized freshwater game fish in Africa.

The Tiger Fish looks like a cross between a Striped Bass and a Piranha.  Its lateral strips are almost indistinguishable from a Striper (they share a similar size range with a Striper) but its jaws are filled with long razor sharp teeth. They are extremely aggressive and have been known to capture birds in flight that venture too close to the water surface. Often you will find them hunting in packs.

Being situated 25 km from the historic town of Livingstone, Chundukwa River Lodge provides easy access to the spectacular Victoria Falls, but remains far enough away to make it the perfect, tranquil retreat from bustling tourist centers. However, the essence of the Chundukwa experience really comes through in the combination of our in house activities and Vic Falls encounter.

A Zambian inspired, owner run experience is waiting for you at Chundukwa River Lodge. Our location on the banks of the Zambezi River upstream from the majestic Victoria Falls allows guests a fantastic opportunity to experience the mighty Zambezi. From sunset cruises, birding excursions both on land and water, horse rides, photographic explorations, game viewing or simply taking in the incredible sights and beautiful sunset and sunrise, this is a river that needs to experienced. Chundukwa blends privacy from the hustle of town with easy access to the Victoria Falls and under the caring and guiding hands of Zambian born owners Gail and Doug.

Fishing Program

You will spend 2 half days and 2 full days fishing with Angle Zambia a professional Fly Fishing company founded in 2000. They provide fishing excursions on the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls. For those with a hunger for adventure, there is no better way to get "hooked on the Zambezi".

Their experienced guides will take you to the best fishing areas where your thirst for action can be satisfied. Over 75 species of fish lurk in the waters of the mighty Zambezi with a quest to elude capture. One of these is rated by many anglers as "the finest sporting and fighting fish in the world" - The renowned Tiger fish. Come and meet this formidable opponent.

Whether the serious angler, recreational fisherman or first timer - there is enjoyment to be had by all. A variety of wildlife can also be viewed along the river, from hippo to the soaring eagle, the churning rapids to the serenity of a gentle flowing river - there is something for everyone.

Angle Zambia offers you a memorable day on the river and an opportunity to tell of "the big one that got away!"

Fish

The Tiger Fish (Hydrocynus Vittatus) is a major freshwater angling game fish and can easily be recognized by the bluish sheen on its back, a series of parallel longitudinal black stripes, blood red fins and a series of 8 large protruding sharply pointed teeth in each jaw. They are ferocious and aggressive apex predators, and are a hard fighting freshwater game fish.  An awesome fish to catch on light tackle and fly fishing equipment.  Tiger Fish are indigenous to Africa.
